LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech head women's basketball coach Marsha Sharp has announced today that freshman guard Kari Jo Simmons has decided to leave the Lady Raider program for personal and medical reasons.
"I wish Kari Jo the best in the future," said Sharp. "We have enjoyed her being part of the Lady Raider program."
The 5-9 reserve guard from Lubbock had seen action in 20 games this season for the Lady Raiders.
"I would like to thank coach Sharp, her staff and the athletic department for providing me the opportunity to play Division I basketball at such an elite program," said Simmons. "I would also like to thank the fans for their unconditional love and support that they provide here at Texas Tech.
My life is heading in a different direction and I feel that it is my utmost responsibility to follow along this new path."
As a policy, Sharp will not comment on this issue any further.
