FULLERTON, Calif. - Texas Tech looked like it had found its swing early against the 12th ranked Washington Huskies as it took a 2-0 lead after one inning, only to fall 10-3 in the first game of championship bracket play at the Kia Klassic in Fullerton Calif.
Tech (10-19) started the game with a Rebecca Eimen walk followed by a one out Kristi Robles single setting up the two run first. Eimen and Robles advanced a base on a double steal and Eimen scored on a wild pitch. After a walk to Carmen Grindell Andrea Joachims doubled down the left field line driving in Robles but the one-out rally would end there.
Washington (25-7) scored all the runs that it would need in the second sending nine batters to the plate scoring five runs on five hits including a two-run homer. The Huskies would add three more runs in the fourth and two in the sixth highlighted by a pair of two-run blasts.
Prior to the Red Raiders one-run sixth the Huskies would retire 14 straight batters. The streak was ended by Ashley Ready who saw action in her first game since dislocating her knee on the first day of the season. Ready singled to the right side of the infield and would eventually score the third Tech run of the evening on a Jana Baker single.
With the loss Tech will play tomorrow at 3 p.m. against the loser of the Florida State/DePaul game in a one-game consolation bracket.
