Tigers Avoid Sweep With 7-1 Win Over Tech

LUBBOCK, Texas - Luke Cassis went 3-for-4 and scored two runs to lead the Missouri Tigers to a 7-1 win over Texas Tech in the second game of a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Dan Law Field.
With the loss, Texas Tech falls to 23-13 overall and 7-8 in the Big 12 while Missouri improves to 11-15 and 3-9 in the league.
Missouri scored the first run of the game in the top of the first as the Tigers took advantage of two leadoff walks by Tech hurler Nathan Fouts. Jody Roughton scored Jayce Tingler from third base on an RBI groundout putting the Tigers up 1-0.
Freshman right fielder Madison Edwards tied the game for Tech in the bottom of the second with an RBI triple to right field that plated Nick Blankenship who led off the inning with a stand up double.
Missouri's Jayce Tingler put the Tigers ahead 2-1 in the top of the fifth when he drove in Luke Cassis on an RBI single to left field. Missouri added five more runs in the top of the ninth to win the game 7-1.
Junior Nathan Fouts (5-4) suffered the loss for Texas Tech despite throwing a season-high eight innings. Fouts gave up four earned runs and six hits while striking out five batters. Garrett Broshuis (2-4) picked up the win for Missouri after scattering seven hits over eight innings and allowing just one earned run.
Texas Tech returns to action on Tuesday night when the Red Raiders will face Howard Payne in a makeup game at 5 p.m. at Dan Law Field.
