Men's Golf to Compete at 2002 US Intercollegiate

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's golf team will compete Sat.-Sun., April 20-21, in the 2002 US Intercollegiate hosted by the Stanford Cardinal in Stanford, Calif. The 47th-ranked Red Raiders are one of only four schools not from the state of California to compete in the tourney.
The 16-team field is comprised of No. 9 USC, No. 17 Washington State, No. 19 San Diego State, No. 32 Oregon, No. 46 UCLA, No. 47 Texas Tech, No. 50 Stanford, UC Irvine, USF, California, Pacific, Long Beach State, Portland, San Jose State, Santa Clara and San Diego.
Leading the Red Raiders into their first appearance at the annual tourney are seniors David Bolen and Kyle Willmann. Bolen is currently seventh on the Big 12 Top Individual Stroke Averages list with a 72 and Willmann sits at 22nd with a 73.38.
Only two schools outside California have won the US Intercollegiate title in the tourney's five-year history. Arizona claimed the team and individual titles last year and Brigham Young University won the team title in 1999.
Tech will begin the first round of 36 holes on Saturday with the final round of 18 holes to be played on Sunday. The shotgun start for both days will be at 8 a.m. (PT)
