LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech softball team dropped its fifth consecutive game at The Rock in the first game of a doubleheader with the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 8-2.
TAMU-CC (27-18) scored three runs on one hit as it jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and never looked back. Katie Evans led off the game with a double to center followed by a Christy Cortez walk. Shelley Oetken reached on an error by Rebecca Eimen that allowed Evens to score. Oetken scored on an attempted sacrifice bunt by Kesty Meitner to wrap up the Islanders' first.
Tech (10-27, 0-6 Big 12) would answer with a run of its own in the home-half of the first. Esmerelda Perez singled up the middle and was driven home as Kristi Robles doubled to centerfield.
The Islanders tacked a single run on in the second as Evans singled and scored on an error on a fly ball to left, making the score 4-1 after two.
After Tech had cut the lead in half in the third, TAMU-CC put a two spot up in the fourth. Evans led off the inning with her third consecutive hit of the game and with one out the Islanders strung together three consecutive hits capped off by a two-RBI single by Rachel Mendez.
Two more runs would cross the plate in the Islander fifth making the score 8-2. In the Tech seventh Sarah Pauly stuck out the side in earning her 17th win of the season.
The win was the Islander's 13th consecutive while Tech drops its 13th consecutive game.
