Edwards Paces Tech Past Texas-Pan American 11-3

LUBBOCK, Texas - Freshman Madison Edwards went 2-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Texas Tech Red Raiders to an 11-3 win over Texas-Pan American on Friday night at Dan Law Field.
With the win, Texas Tech improves to 35-16 on the season while Texas-Pan American falls to 15-36.
Texas-Pan American scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning on an RBI single from Tony Ortiz.
The Red Raiders wasted no time getting on the board as Texas Tech plated five runs in the bottom of the first on three hits and four walks from Bronc starter Travis Parker. Senior third baseman Jake Brown padded Tech's lead in the inning with a two-out two RBI single through the left side.
Texas Tech scored two runs in the third and fourth innings to give the Red Raiders a 7-1 lead. Freshman right fielder Madison Edwards pushed the lead to 8-1 in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single to left center field that plated Jon Slack.
The Broncs picked up a single run in the top of the eighth on an error by Tech first baseman Austin Cranford and a sacrifice fly by Sean Flynn.
Sophomore Steve Gooch picked up the win for Texas Tech after tossing eight innings with three hits and four strikeouts. Travis Parker suffered the loss for Texas-Pan American after surrendering eight hits and six earned runs in six innings of work.
Texas Tech and Texas-Pan American will play the second game of the three-game series at 7 p.m. on Saturday night at Dan Law Field.
