Tech Baseball Arrives In Houston

The Texas Tech baseball team arrived in Houston today where the team will begin play in the 2002 NCAA Tournament in the regional round being hosted by Rice University at Reckling Park.
The Red Raiders arrived in mid-afternoon and checked into the team hotel and enjoyed a short siesta before evening activities. Texas Tech took in a Houston Astros game in the evening at Astros Field as the Astros hosted the St. Louis Cardinals. The Astros came away victorious 10-5 and the Red Raiders were recognized in the eighth inning for their attendance.
Texas Tech will begin pre-tournament preparations on Thursday morning as Tech will practice at 11:30 a.m. at Reckling Park. The practice will last approximately one hour and will be open to the public. Head coach Larry Hays and selected players will address the media in a 4 p.m. press conference and then all four teams will enjoy a team dinner hosted by Rice.
Texas Tech will meet the Washington Huskies at 7 p.m. on Friday night and tickets are can be purchased in advance by calling the Rice Athletic Ticket Office.

Of Note: Former Texas Tech All-American Keith Ginter was called up tonight by the Houston Astros and will travel with the squad to Chicago on Thursday morning.
