LUBBOCK, Texas - Following Sunday morning's practice, Texas Tech head football coach Mike Leach gave the Red Raiders Sunday afternoon off, officially ending two-a-day workouts for the 2002 preseason.
The Red Raiders were scheduled to complete dual workouts Sunday, but Leach said the team "deserves and has earned this break."
"The guys have worked hard during preseason camp and we are happy with the progress we have made to this point," Leach said. "This will give us a chance to relax and get our legs back under us and we'll come back Tuesday and go again."
The Red Raiders have Monday off. Practice resumes Tue., Aug. 13, at 4 p.m. on the grass practice fields southeast of Jones SBC Stadium.
The Red Raiders also enjoyed the annual watermelon feed following practice, officially marking the end of two-a-day workouts.
Texas Tech opens the 2002 season in the NACDA Pigskin Classic at Ohio State in Columbus. The game, which will be televised by ABC Sports, is scheduled to kick off at 1:30 p.m. (CDT).
