The Texas Tech Soccer team reported for duty on Tuesday, August 13, and since then the squad has endured the Texas heat during two-a-day practices. After a few days on the job a couple Red Raiders wrote down their thoughts on the first week and the upcoming season. Tech will kick off the season on August 30th as it takes on the Colgate Raiders in Syracuse, New York.

I am so excited about playing soccer at Texas Tech! I was really nervous at first about coming down to Texas to a whole new atmosphere, climate, and group of people, but I couldn't be enjoying myself more. The girls on the team are so awesome! Everyone gets along so well and all of the girls are so supportive of one another. The upper classmen are extremely outgoing and are really good about making us (freshman) feel comfortable about playing with them. So far, we have only had a few practices and a scrimmage, which went very well. You can tell that this team is going to come together very quickly, on and off the field. All of the girls on the team have such positive attitudes, especially during those two-a-days! The team is working very hard and I think we'll be ready for the Big 12 in no time at the rate we're going. The coaches are also incredible! They are always insisting that we do our best and giving it everything we have, which is really encouraging. I am just having such a great time. Everyone in Lubbock is so friendly and hospitable. It is so wonderful! Everywhere I turn there is always a smiling face. I am really looking forward to this season and to Texas Tech soccer success!

Well, here we are at the end of the second day of two-a-days. Most people are a little stiff and sore but overall not too bad. This being my second year, I had an idea of what these next two weeks were going to be like and what expectations we hoped to accomplish. We had quite a large group of new recruits join the team this year and to be honest, I am quite content with what I see. I can already tell that most of them are willing to work hard to become an important addition to this team. Everybody's work ethic and attitudes towards practice has been very positive so far, a must for a successful team. From what I see, the veterans are definitely providing great leadership and are helpful with whatever the newcomers need. I see these first two weeks as a time for bonding on and off the field and getting to know each other, not only personalities but how everyone plays together. The team seems to be getting along great with each other and I am excited about getting to know each one of my teammates. I think the great thing about athletic programs and teams is the lasting friendships that you make. It is like a whole other family that you can turn to whenever you need to laugh, cry, or just talk to someone. These next two weeks are going to be tough, but hopefully all the hard work will pay off. I think the big difference between last year and this year is our attitudes. Everyone expects nothing but each other's best and with that and dedication, success will come. This year is going to be a new year for Texas Tech Women's Soccer. This team has no limits to what it can accomplish and we are not looking back. Each practice, each game, each tournament, each CHAMPIONSHIP is a chance for us to get better. Personally, I am excited about this season and seeing what kind of success we are able to achieve, and I know I am not alone. With a new attitude, commitment, dedication, and motivation, TECH is ready to conquer anything!! WATCH OUT BIG 12....HERE WE COME!!! GO TECH!!!!
