Veterans Dominate Red/Black Scrimmage

LUBBOCK, Texas - Saturday night's Red/Black scrimmage was dominated by the veterans as the Black team ousted the Red squad in three sets, 30-23, 30-20, 30-10, at the United Spirit Arena.
Sophomore Kelly Johnson (Fort Worth, Texas) led all players with 16 kills in 25 attempts for a .520 percentage while senior Melissa McGehee (Kerrville, Texas) recorded a match-high 18 digs.
Other standout performances Saturday were turned in by Ann Romjue (Papillion, Neb.), who recorded 14 kills, 12 digs and four service aces, and Angela Mooney (Lubbock, Texas), who had 10 kills and recorded a pair of service aces utilizing her new jump serve.
Tech will open its 2003 campaign next weekend as it travels to Hempstead, N.Y., for the Hofstra/Asics Classic. The first match of the tournament will be at 3:30 p.m. (CST) Friday against Fairfield. Saturday the Red Raiders will play a pair of matches, the first against Kentucky (10 a.m.) and the in final game of the tournament against host school Hofstra at 5 p.m.
