LUBBOCK, Texas - Red Raider wide receiver Anton Paige said "everybody looks great" through the first two days of full squad practices. Texas Tech completed a pair of two-hour workouts in shorts, shoulder pads and helmets for the second-straight day in preparation for the first full pad practice on Wednesday.
"We have come out the last two days and picked up where we left off in the spring," Paige said. "We are working on polishing up our game and are continuing to focus on our mental toughness, not the soreness."
Texas Tech head coach Mike Leach said the team "had a great first practice," but wasn't as impressed with the afternoon workout. "I thought we'd get a little more in the afternoon," Leach added. "The effort is there, but we need to continue to be more polished."
Both of Sunday's drills consisted of individual group work, team periods and work on the kicking game. Monday's 9 a.m. workout is expected to be identical.
The Red Raiders will put on pads for the first time Wednesday in a single workout at 9 a.m.
Texas Tech opens the 2002 season in the NACDA Pigskin Classic at Ohio State in Columbus. The game, which will be televised by ABC Sports, is scheduled to kick off at 1:30 p.m. (CDT).
