LUBBOCK, Texas - The Big 12 Conference announced today that Texas Tech senior quarterback Kliff Kingsbury (New Braunfels, Texas) has been named offensive player of the week for his performance in Texas Tech's 49-0 win at New Mexico last weekend.
Kingsbury blistered the Lobo defense for 407 yards and a Big 12 and Texas Tech record six touchdown passes on 41-of-59 passing. Kingsbury holds 11 Big 12 records and 35 school records in passing and total offense. He needs 928 passing yards over the next eight games to become only the 19th Division I quarterback in NCAA history to throw for 10,000 yards.
On the season, Kingsbury has 1,660 yards and 17 touchdown passes. His single-season school record of 25 TD tosses last season is in jeopardy as is his single-season school record 3,502 passing yards in 2001.
Kingsbury currently leads the Big 12 Conference in passing yards per game (332.0) and total offense (326.2) and ranks fifth in the country in total offense.
The Red Raiders and Kingsbury travel to Texas A&M Sat., Oct. 5, for a 1 p.m. matchup with the Aggies at Kyle Field in College Station.
