LUBBOCK, Texas - After a very successful road trip, which saw the team start 2-0 for the first time since 1996, the Texas Tech soccer team will look to continue its good fortunes as they host the Southwest Texas Bobcats Friday at 7 p.m. at R. P. Fuller Stadium.
The Bobcats (0-1) enter the match after kicking off their 2002 campaign last Sunday night, falling to the UTEP Miners 2-1 in El Paso, Texas. The two schools have never met in a soccer match.
The Red Raiders (2-0) are coming off a road trip that saw them defeat both Colgate and Syracuse at the Syracuse Orange Classic. On Aug. 30, Tech got a goal from freshman Karen Stephens (Denton, Texas) with 20 seconds remaining in the contest to give the team a 2-1 victory. Against the tournament host, Syracuse Orangewomen, the Red Raiders came out strong and posted a 3-1 victory. In the win, starting goalie Lindsay Fish (Dallas, Texas) suffered a broken nose and will be out around 10 days. The duo of freshmen Beth Lippert (Woodinville, Wash) and Megan Knauss (Tigard, Ore.) will team to replace Fish.
Junior Kerri Campbell (Duncanville, Texas) is off to a hot start. After finishing with nine points on three goals and three assists a year ago, Campbell has one goal and two assists for a total of four points in just two games played this season.
Tech will also be in action at home next week as they host West Texas A&M on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. at R. P. Fuller Stadium.
