Davis Named Big 12 Rookie of the Week

DALLAS - Texas Tech's LaToya Davis was selected Big 12 Rookie of the Week and Kansas State's Kendra Wecker was named Big 12 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season in a vote of a media panel, the conference office announced Monday.

Davis, a 6-1 freshman forward/center, helped No. 8 Texas Tech to victories over Texas A&M and Baylor. Davis came off the bench for the Lady Raiders to give them the spark they needed against Baylor. She recorded the first double-double of her career with career-highs of 15 points and 15 rebounds. For the week, the Houston, Texas, native averaged a double-double with 10.5 points and 10 rebounds, while shooting 64.3 percent from the field and 60 percent from the free throw line.

Wecker, a 5-11 sophomore forward, averaged 18 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 3.0 steals and 32 minutes of play in two Kansas State victories last week. The Wildcats beat Kansas and No. 24/23 Colorado to remain undefeated at home (11-0) and record their second win over a ranked opponent this season. Against the Jayhawks, Wecker had 18 points, five rebounds, two assists and a steal in 28 minutes of play. She also shot 50 (6-12) percent from the field, 1.000 (5-5) percent from three-point range and 1.000 (1-1) percent from the free-throw line. The Marysville, Kan., native's five three-pointers were a career-high and the most any Wildcat has made this year except Laurie Koehn. Against the Buffaloes, Wecker registered her sixth double-double of the season and 16th of her career when she had 18 points and 10 rebounds. She also added two assists and a season-high five steals. Wecker is currently fifth on the career double-doubles list at K-State. For the season she is leading KSU in scoring (20.5) and is second in rebounds (8.3), assists (3.7) and steals (1.3). Wecker is shooting 53.8 percent from the field, 49.1 percent from three-point range and 90.9 percent from the foul line.
