GETTING STARTED
- Texas Tech won the opening coin toss for just the second time this season (only other win was against New Mexico). Tech elected to receive the ball while Iowa State chose to defend the north end zone.
- In a pregame ceremony, Meredith Jumper was introduced as the 2003 Homecoming Queen.
- Sophomore defensive back Tim Norman made his first career start as he lined up at the left corner position.
- Tonight's attendance of 49,627 gives Texas Tech a cumulative total of 191,607 through four home games this season and an average of 47,902.

THE SYMONS WATCH
- B.J. Symons scored the first touchdown of the game on a one-yard rush to give the Red Raiders a 6-0 lead.
- Symons picked up another rushing TD with 10:38 remaining in the third quarter to give him four rushing TD's on the year.
- With 487 passing yards tonight, Symons broke his own NCAA record for passing yards in four-consecutive games with 2,239 yards over his last four outings. He breaks the previous mark of 2,170 yards that he set from the New Mexico game through the Texas A&M game.
- Symons finished the game with 487 passing yards, 2 rushing touchdowns and 3 passing touchdowns.
GROUND GAME SUPPLEMENTS AIR ATTACK
The Texas Tech ground attack came alive tonight to help pace the nation's top ranked offense to a total of 52 points on the evening.
- Taurean Henderson finished the night with 113 yards rushing marking just the second time in his two-year career that he has rushed for over 100 yards in a game. Henderson's 100-plus yard rushing performance was just the fourth in the Mike Leach era as both he and Ricky Williams accounted for two each.
- Tonight's four rushing touchdowns ties the most in the Mike Leach era as the Red Raiders scored on the ground four times against Baylor in 2001.
RED RAIDERS SET BIG 12 FIRST DOWN RECORD T
exas Tech set a new Big 12 record for first downs in a single-game as the Red Raiders finished with 45. The previous record was 38 set by the Red Raiders against Missouri last season.
RED RAIDER NOTEBOOK
- Texas Tech scored a touchdown on its first possession for just the second time this season. The Red Raiders scored a TD against Texas A&M last week on its opening drive marking the first opening drive touchdown this year. The Red Raider scored a field goal on the opening drive against SMU in the season opener.
- Senior Carlos Francis picked up his fourth receiving touchdown of the season with 3:30 remaining in the first quarter on a 24-yard pass from B.J. Symons.
- Carlos Francis moved into third place on the Texas Tech career receptions list.
- Taurean Henderson gave Tech a 20-7 lead with 9:47 remaining in the second quarter when he scored on a two-yard rush. The rushing TD was his third of his season and the 10th of his career.
- Wes Welker recorded his fourth receiving touchdown of the season with 9:24 remaining in the third quarter. The TD was the 16th of his career.
- Senior Gathan McGinnis picked up the second sack of his career in the third quarter when he brought down Iowa State QB Chris Love Jr.
- Keith Toogood's 47-yard field goal in the third quarter was a career-long. Toogood's field goal was the longest by Texas Tech since Clinton Greathouse's 50-yard field goal in the closing seconds of the first half of the 2001 Alamo Bowl against Iowa.
- Jarrett Hicks nabbed his third receiving touchdown of the season late in the third quarter (46 seconds left) when he caught a 6-yard pass from B.J. Symons.
- Johnnie Mack scored his second rushing touchdown of the season with 11:46 remaining in the fourth quarter. The TD run was eight yards.
- Chad Johnson picked up his second interception of the season with 11:16 remaining in the fourth quarter.
TIME SET FOR OKLAHOMA STATE GAME
ABC Sports announced late this afternoon that Texas Tech's game with Oklahoma State next Saturday in Stillwater will be televised regionally by ABC beginning at 2:30 p.m. The game will mark Tech's third television appearance this season.
