TEXAS TECH POSTGAME QUOTES
Quarterback BJ Symons
On what the key was tonight:
"We executed flawlessly. We never lost focus of what our job was and we went out and attacked the defense and took what they had to give us. The offensive line played very hard and the receivers caught the ball well."
On throwing for 74%, what was clicking?
"Sometimes you get out there and feel it. I got into that groove and felt like I couldn't be stopped and we felt like that as an offense. You get in that groove where everything you seem to do works out for you and I felt like we had that mentality as a whole offense and without my surrounding cast, none of this could be possible"
On having no turnovers, does he feel like it could get any better than this:
"It can always get better. You never look back on a game and say we did everything perfect. A perfect game would be scoring every time and not punting and we got down to the three-yard line and came off with a field goal and that was disappointing. There are still some areas we can improve on and we can get better for next week and that's our goal."
On whether there was anything in particular they were attacking out there:
"We attacked everything. Taurean ran the ball well when we ran the ball. We attacked deep, we attacked short, and we attacked everything. Whatever they gave, we tried to make a routine play. Routine play after routine play adds up and you can look at the results."
Nehemiah Glover
On getting into the groove with his first touchdown:
"I was open on a quick post, BJ had to scramble and I rolled with him and ended up in the end zone."
On if this win sends a message about being a contender for the Big 12 Championship:
"I think that all the hard work in practice is paying off and now we're just looking at Iowa State."
Head Coach Mike Leach
On the offense:
"Every play worked tonight. We weren't fool proof but a lot of credit goes to B.J. Symons. He is making good decisions."
On A&M's fake punt:
"I was really pleased with the fact that we stopped it. We did a good job identifying it, reacting to it and slamming the door on it."
On a 31 point win to open the conference:
"I think you have to keep perspective on the number of points. 31points is better than 30 but worse than 32 so instead zoom in on Iowa State and do what we can to prepare for next week."
Defensive Coordinator Lyle Setencich
On whether the defense executed better or defense was simplified:
"We played everything we have been practicing since I got here in the spring. Some times we play better than others but its been the same thing all year.
On pressure:
"I'm too old to feel pressure but I want to say this, you all in this room are witnessing something special. What this offenses does is special. What you say on the field tonight, is exactly what we see in practice. The ball moves up and down the field."
Mike Smith
On big stops:
"We just had a fire underneath us tonight. We played this game extremely well. We need to work on the 4th quarter but we made good stops."
On whether or not the win was because of emotion:
It was because of skill and emotion. We get better every week. We are young but we are really trusting the coaches and improving ever week.
On pressure from media:
Well, we have one of the best offenses in the county so we have to do our job to hold 'em every week. We feel a lot of pressure. This week I was listening to the radio and announcers were talking about everything that A&M's offense could do to us but we worked really hard and put out a lot of effort. I feel like we as a defense played well.
TEXAS A&M QUOTES
Texas A&M Offensive Tackle Alan Reuber
"We never got the momentum; they came out and jumped on us early."
"We have to remember this game. This is not one we can just blow off. We have got to continue to keep working hard and learn from it."
Texas A&M Head Coach Dennis Franchione
"I don't think that you ever come out and expect something like this but they are an excellent team. We tried to do a lot of different things but for everything we tried they had an answer."
On Tech Quarterback B.J. Symons:
"He was everything we expected. He was very composed back there."
On how the Aggies will bounce next week against Baylor:
"Our kids knew that coming in here we were going to have a tough time. This will be a big test for our team leadership wise. It will be interesting to see how we bounce back from this one."
