Texas Tech Opens 2003 Spring Golf Season

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's golf team continues its quest for a second-straight NCAA Championships appearance with the start of the spring season Wednesday at the 13th Annual Taylor Made/Waikoloa Intercollegiate in Hilo, Hawaii.
The 54-hole event gets underway Wednesday morning and continues through Friday. The Waikoloa Resort Kings' Golf Course (par 72 / 6,594 yards) will serve as the host course for the event.
The field for the 13th Annual Taylor Made/Waikoloa Intercollegiate includes some of the top teams in the nation. Thirteen of the 26 teams in the field are currently ranked among Golfweek.com's top 50, including TCU (3), UCLA (12), Pepperdine (18) and Arkansas (20) out of the top 20. The Red Raiders are ranked 54th.
During the first 12 years of the event, three teams (Oklahoma State, UNLV and Georgia Tech) accounted for nine team titles, while Arkansas, Arizona State and Texas each have one championship. Notable individual medallists from the past include Notah Begay (Stanford) in 1994 and Matt Kuchar (Georgia Tech) in 1999 and 2000.
