San Francisco Drops Texas Tech 8-5

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech stranded 11 runners in scoring position and San Francisco got key hitting down the stretch to salvage the final game of the series with an 8-5 win over the Red Raiders on Sunday afternoon at Dan Law Field.
With the loss Texas Tech falls to 8-2 on the season while San Francisco improved to 2-6 on the year.
Jason Howard put San Francisco on the board in the top of the first inning with an RBI single through the right side putting the Dons up 1-0. Texas Tech answered in the bottom half of the inning with a Doug Beck RBI single to right-center field plating Madison Edwards.
San Francisco took the lead for good in the second inning as they scored two runs on three hits to go ahead 3-1. The Red Raiders plated one run in the bottom half of the inning when junior Christian Colonel delivered an RBI single to pull Tech within one.
The Dons scored three runs over the next four innings while holding Tech to just two giving San Francisco a 6-3 lead going into the seventh.
Texas Tech pulled within one by scoring two runs in the seventh and the eighth. Junior first baseman Doug Beck led off the seventh with a solo home run over the left field fence giving him his first home run of the year. Tech plated another run in the eighth on an RBI sacrifice fly to center field by Christian Colonel.
San Francisco sealed the game in the top of the ninth as the Dons plated two runs on two hits and one error. Texas Tech put runners on first and second with two outs but pinch hitter Travis McElroy struckout to end the game.
Senior right-hander Dusty Buck (1-1) suffered the loss for Texas Tech after allowing six earned runs on 10 hits over 6 1/3 innings. Steve Spurgeon picked up the win for San Francisco after pitching five innings allowing 11 hits and three earned runs.
Texas Tech will wrap up an 11-game homestand on Tuesday as TCU will come to town for a 3 p.m. game.
