TEXAS TECH HOSTS TCU ON TUESDAY BEFORE HEADING TO WACO FOR SERIES WITH BAYLOR
The Texas Tech Red Raiders will host the TCU Horned Frogs on Tuesday night at Dan Law Field in what will be the final game of the season-long five game set between the two schools. Texas Tech and TCU are currently tied at 2-2 on the year as the Red Raiders won the first match-up in Lubbock while TCU won 2-of-3 in the weekend series in Fort Worth. The Red Raiders enter Tuesday night's game with a 15-6 overall record while TCU comes in with an 11-8 mark after taking two games from BYU this past weekend.
Texas Tech will be looking to rebound from what turned out to be an ugly Sunday afternoon as the Southwest Texas Bobcats pounded out 15 runs on 18 hits and cruised to a 15-5 win to salvage the final game of the series. Texas Tech recorded 9-8 and 5-4 wins on Friday and Saturday to take the series 2-1.
The Red Raiders begin Big 12 Conference play this weekend as they travel to Waco for a crucial three-game series with Top-10 Baylor at the Baylor Ballpark. Texas Tech has finished in second place in the Big 12 the past two seasons but started both those campaigns with 0-3 Big 12 records.
THE LAST TIME OUT
LUBBOCK, Texas - Southwest Texas dealt No. 21 Texas Tech its worst home loss in five years as the Bobcats pounded out 18 hits in a 15-5 win over the Red Raiders on Sunday afternoon at Dan Law Field.
The 10-run loss marked the worst home defeat since the Red Raiders lost a 15-1 decision to Oklahoma on April 24, 1998. The loss gives the Red Raiders a 15-6 record on the year.
Southwest Texas (6-13) center fielder Evan Tierce hit Tech starter Nathan Fouts with a line drive in the second at-bat of the game and Fouts never recovered as he gave up four runs on four hits including a three-run home run by Cory Covert.
Texas Tech got on the board in the bottom of the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Cody Fuller that scored T.J. Bruce who led off the inning with a single to center.
It all went downhill for the Red Raiders in the second as the Bobcats put up another four-run inning and piled up 10 hits to quickly take an 8-1 lead.
Southwest Texas held the Red Raiders scoreless until sophomore Madison Edwards homered to right in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 11-2.
After giving up another run in the top of the eighth, Tech tacked on three runs in the bottom of the eighth to pull within seven, however, Southwest Texas widened the gap with a three run ninth.
Senior Nathan Fouts suffered the loss for Texas Tech and falls to 2-2 on the year while Cory Covert (1-3) earned the win for Southwest Texas.
