CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Lady Raider softball team played its final game at the Islander Invitational in Corpus Christi, Texas, against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to a 9-0 finish. Tech outhit the Islanders 7-6 but six Tech errors would result in a loss.
Andrea Joachims, going 2-for-2 on the day, logged the team's first hit in the second off a double to right field but was not sent home with a ground out after her. The Islanders leapt on the board in the second making an impact that the Lady Raiders could not undo. The Islanders logged five runs in the second inning off four hits.
After pitching two complete innings pitcher Kristina Blair left the game and Erin Crawford came in as relief. The Islanders continued with their hot bats into the third and fourth notching two runs in both the third and fourth.
Heading into the fifth 9-0 and trying to avoid a run-rule game, the Lady Raiders turned on the heat with three Lady Raiders earning hits; Amanda Douglas with a single, Kristi Robles with a double and Shayne Gipson with a bunt. However the game would end in the fifth with three men left on base.
Tech (9-17) will spend some time at home this weekend as they host the Mutual of Omaha Red Raider Classic, March 7-9. The squad will take on New Mexico, Wichita State, Columbia and #2 Arizona.
