LUBBOCK, Texas - The Lady Raider softball squad (14-25) fell 6-4 to the Missouri Tigers in their second series of conference play today. A homerun by Kelly Rhyne and a two-RBI single by Elyssa Sigala would not be enough to overcome a three run Tiger inning in the first.
Missouri (16-11,1-0) put up three runs in the first all off singles including a two RBI single by Daisy Mettlach. Tech's first hit came in the second when Kelly Rhyne kicked it off with a homerun over left center field, her sixth homerun of the season. Mettlach would once again put the Tigers on the board with a single. The score remained at 4-1 until the fifth, with Tech slotting three hits in the third and fourth.
A two run homerun by Rachael McGinnis in the fifth increased the Tiger lead, however, Tech struck back with Lisa Lawler and Kristi Robles both earning singles. Sigala slammed a single to right field scoring Oakes, in pinch run position for Lawler, and Robles. Advancing on the throw and on an error by the catcher allowed Sigala to score and cut the lead to 6-4. Tech fought back in the sixth including a double by Amanda Douglas but it would not be enough to log a Tech win.
Tech will finish its series with Missouri tomorrow at 1 p.m.
