Tech Ranks Second in NCAA First Round Attendance

LUBBOCK, Texas - During the first round of action at the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Lubbock First/Second Rounds, 11,059 fans attended the event at the United Spirit Arena, making it the second-largest draw in the NCAA opening round this year.
The NCAA release its numbers Monday afternoon and Texas Tech ranked second behind New Mexico, which drew 16,151 for its first round matchups in Albuquerque. Traditional attendance leaders Connecticut and Tennessee rank fourth and sixth, respectively, with 8,647 attending in Storrs, Conn., and 7,015 purchasing tickets in Knoxville, Tenn.
Kansas State is third on the list with 10,732, followed by UConn in fourth and Penn State in fifth. Following Tennessee, first round sites at Old Dominion, Purdue, Duke and Cincinnati rank seven through 10. Colorado, Oklahoma, Louisiana Tech, Georgia, Stanford and Oregon hold the 11 through 16 spots.
Lubbock's attendance record in the first round ranks eighth all-time in Midwest Region first-round attendance, including New Mexico this year. New Mexico's attendance total is an NCAA first-round record.
