Tech Baseball Adds To 2004 Signing Class

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech Head Baseball Coach Larry Hays announced today that five players have signed National Letters of Intent or financial aid papers in the spring signing period and will join the baseball program in the fall.
The Red Raiders got commitments from five players that included Monterey High School first baseman David Steffey and Midland High School pitcher Casey Zachry. Tech also got commitments from Paris Junior College standout pitcher John Milton, right-handed pitcher Dallas Braden of American River College and outfielder Michael Mask of Galveston College.
2004 Signees
David Steffey, Infielder, (6-3, 235, R/R, Lubbock, Texas/Monterey High School)
Currently plays first base for the Monterey High School Plainsmen in Lubbock...batting .480 with 38 hits, eight home runs, 12 doubles, two triples and 19 walks...has an on-base percentage of .600 and is fielding at .964...has been named to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal All-South Plains and All-City Teams....named District 2-5A All-District
John Milton, RHP, (6-1, 190, R/R, Honey Grove, Texas/Honey Grove/Paris Junior College)
Was a standout pitcher for the Honey Grove High School Warriors where he earned all-district and All-Red River Valley honors...has been a stellar reliever for the Paris Junior College Dragons...has a perfect 8-0 record with four saves and a 1.66 ERA through 76 innings of work...struckout 61 batters on the season and has issued just six walks...allowed just 14 earned runs.
Casey Zachry, RHP, (6-2, 215, R/R, Midland, Texas/Midland)
A standout baseball and football player for the Bulldogs of Midland High School...was a teammate of Tech sophomore Madison Edwards on the 2001 Class 5A State Championship team...four year baseball letterman and three year football letterman...earned District 3-5A honors in baseball three years and two years for football...currently ranks 39th in a senior class fo 598 with a 3.90 GPA...has a career record of 26-5 and five saves from the hill along with 188 strikeouts...this season he is currently 6-1 with one save and a 2.61 ERA.
Michael Mask, OF, (5-10, 195, R/R, Sarasota, Fla./Riverview High/Galveston College)
Earned All-Area and All-State honors while batting .416 with two home runs and 16 doubles at Riverview High in Sarasota, Fla., his senior season...currently playing at Galveston College where he is hitting .425 with seven home runs, nine doubles and 12 stolen bases...has a fielding percentage of .998
Dallas Braden, LHP, (6-1, 180, L/L, Stockton, Calif./Stagg High/American River College)
Was a standout pitcher where he Player of the Year honors at Stagg High School in Stockton, Calif...has a 7-2 overall record this year at American River College...has a 2.50 ERA in 11 appearances...56 strikeouts
