LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech defensive end Aaron Hunt was selected in the sixth round by the Denver Broncos as the 194th overall pick of the 2003 NFL Draft. Quarterback Kliff Kingsbury was also picked in the sixth round by the New England Patriots as the 201st overall selection.
Hunt, a native of Denison Texas, becomes the first defensive end drafted since 1999 when Montae Reagor was the selected by the Denver Broncos in the second round, now a member of the Indianapolis Colts. Hunt established himself as the greatest pass rusher in school history, eclipsing Reagor's sack record of 25.5 and finishing his career with 34, which is also first in the Big 12 Conference. Hunt also owns five school records, including career sacks and single-season tackles for loss.
A New Braunfels, Texas native, Kingsbury ended his career as the most prolific passer in Texas Tech history and one of the top quarterbacks in NCAA history. To his credit, Kingsbury owns 17 NCAA records, 16 Big 12 marks and 39 school records. He became only the third quarterback in NCAA history to pass for 5,017 yards during last season's nine-win campaign. Kingsbury is the first Tech quarterback to be drafted since Billy Joe Tolliver was picked in the second round of the 1989 draft by San Diego.
The two draft picks marks the first time Tech has had more than one player drafted since the 2000 draft when Anthony Malbrough (5th, Cleveland) and Sammy Morris (5th, Buffalo) were both selected. Tech has had at least one player taken in the last eight drafts.
