No. 23 Texas Tech Falls To Missouri 11-5

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Texas Tech offense was virtually nonexistent today as the Red Raiders stranded eight runners and the Tech pitching staff gave up five runs in the bottom of the sixth and Missouri cruised to an 11-5 win over No. 23 Texas Tech on Saturday afternoon. The win gives clinches the series for the Tigers and moves their win streak to 11 games.
The loss drops Texas Tech to 20-13 on the season and 4-7 in the Big 12. The Red Raiders have now gone 4-7 through the first 12 games of the conference season in back-to-back years as Tech was 4-7 after a the second game of the Nebraska series in 2002.
Missouri jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first as the Tigers racked up three hits on Tech starter Juan Razo including a leadoff double by Jayce Tingler.
Texas Tech got on the board in the top of the third when designated hitter Travis McElroy delivered a bases-loaded bloop RBI single that plated Scooter Jordan from third. Tech loaded the bases with two outs in the inning as Jordan laid down a bunt single, Madison Edwards singled up the middle and Cody Fuller walked.
Zane Taylor pushed the Missouri lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth with a two-out RBI single scoring Ian Kinsler from second.
Texas Tech imploded in the bottom of the sixth as the Tigers scored five runs on three hits and three walks and chased away four Tech pitchers including starter Juan Razo. Tyler Williams delivered the fatal blow of the inning with a base-clearing double into right field.
The Red Raiders added four cosmetic runs in the top of the eighth thanks to three hits and two defensive errors by Missouri. Cody Fuller and Sean Alexander both doubled in the inning and T.J. Bruce singled to help lead Tech in the scoring.
Juan Razo (2-4) suffered the loss for Texas Tech as he surrendered six earned runs on 11 hits through 5 1/3 innings. Garrett Broshius (5-2) earned the win for Missouri.
Texas Tech will try to avoid being swept in the three-game series as the two teams will play at 1 p.m. on Sunday in the finale.
