Big 12 Women's Basketball Leads Nation in Attendance

DALLAS -- Big 12 women's basketball captured the conference attendance crown for the fourth consecutive year by totaling 970,764 fan in 2003, announced the NCAA.
The league's 5,030 per-game average also led the nation and marked only the third time in history a conference has surpassed the 5,000 mark as the Big 12 also accomplished this feat in 2001 and 2002.
The Big 12 outdistanced the second-place Big Ten Conference by 254,745 total fans. The Big Ten numbered 716,019 followed by the SEC in third place with 670,023.
In 2002, the Big 12 achieved its goal of becoming the first NCAA Division I conference to draw one million fans to its game. The 1,002,251 total fans and 5,331 average are NCAA records.
Individually, six Big 12 schools finished in the Top 25 of national attendance. Texas Tech placed third with an average of 12,204 fans per contest. Iowa State was fifth with 9,632, Kansas State sixth with 8,753, Texas 14th with 5,398, Oklahoma 17th with 5,196, and Baylor 23rd with 4,216.
