LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech football players and coaches are getting anxious as the day approaches for their season opener against SMU with a two-hour practice in shoulder pads and helmets Wednesday.
After a hot and breezy day of practice on the grass fields southeast of Jones SBC Stadium, head coach Mike Leach and the Red Raiders are looking forward to their first kickoff.
"We are progressing everyday and getting ready to play," Leach said. "We had a good practice today and have been getting a lot of things done. The guys are anxious to hit the field against someone else."
With just seven more practices until kickoff, the Red Raider put together a good showing at Wednesday's workout after focusing on sharpening up their plays for game day.
Texas Tech opens the season against the Mustangs Sat., Aug. 30, at 6 p.m. at Jones SBC Stadium. For ticket information, contact the Texas Tech Athletic Ticket Office at (888) GO-BIG-12 or 742-TECH.
Practice Schedule Changes: Thursday's 3:45 p.m. workout has been moved back to the grass fields, while Friday's originally scheduled 3:45 p.m. practice session has been moved up to 11 a.m. on the Jones SBC Stadium turf. Saturday's practice will remain the same at 3:45 p.m. on the grass followed by the annual team watermelon feed.
