LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech senior QB B.J. Symons (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek) was named SBC Big 12 Conference Offensive Player of the Week Monday, after throwing for a school and Big 12 record 661 yards in Texas Tech's 49-45 win at Mississippi.
Symons completed 44-of-64 passes and threw for six touchdowns, while also rushing for another score. In addition to the passing yardage record, which ranks third all-time in NCAA single-game history, Symons also set the school's touchdowns-responsible-for record with seven against the Rebels. Symons' accomplishments come one week after rolling up then-school and Big 12 record 586 passing yards at N.C. State.
Symons and the Red Raiders are 3-1 on the season and open up Big 12 Conference play Saturday against traditional rival Texas A&M at Jones SBC Stadium in Lubbock. Kickoff is set for 9:10 p.m. (CT) and tickets are still available through the Texas Tech Athletic Ticket Office at (888) GO-BIG-12 or (806) 742-TECH.
