Tech Volleyball Clinches Second Tournament Title

LUBBOCK, Texas - Tech clinched another tournament title after handing Clemson a loss in four games (30-21,28-30,30-28,30-22) at the Big Orange Bash in Clemson, S.C. Tech's Kelly Johnson, Laura Grote and Jessy Herrera were named to the all-tournament team with Johnson claiming Tournament MVP.
Before facing Clemson, Tech battled Winthrop shutting them down in four games (24-30, 30-28, 30-21, 30-24). Johnson had a match-high 30 kills with a .420 hitting percentage, once again surpassing her season best in kills. Grote handed out a match-high 65 assists with Christina Miller serving four aces, the most in a match on the season. Defensively, Herrera logged 14 digs with Johnson adding 12.
In its final pre-season tournament appearance, the squad faced Clemson with Grote tallying a season high 66 assists. Angela Mooney led the team with a .406 hitting percentage after posting 16 kills and three blocks. Breanna Pursley had a season high 20 digs, playing in three games with eight kills and two service aces.
Tech (7-0) will conclude its non-conference schedule with appearances at New Mexico State and the University of Texas- El Paso before they head to Boulder, Colo., next Wednesday to take on the Buffaloes, in the conference opener.
