Early NCAA Numbers Reflect Red Raiders' Performances

LUBBOCK, Texas - Several Red Raiders currently find themselves among the nation's elite in the latest NCAA statistical rankings, released Sunday afternoon by the NCAA.
Senior SS and Jim Thorpe Award candidate Ryan Aycock (Lubbock, Texas/Coronado) is tied at the top of the interception-per-game list with 1.5 per game. He has three on the season and is tied with Nebraska's Josh Bullocks. Also ranking high is redshirt junior KR Johnnie Mack (Lakeland, Fla./CC of San Francisco). Mack's 50.0 yards per return ranks second nationally.
Offensively, senior QB B.J. Symons (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek) is making his early mark as one of the nation's top passing leaders. Symons ranks fifth in total offense with 369.0 yards per game and has the top individual Big 12 scoring performance of the season with six touchdowns accounted for against New Mexico.
On the heels of his best collegiate outing, senior TE Mickey Peters (Weatherford, Texas/Weatherford) is tied ninth nationally in scoring at 9.0 points per game and is tied 25th nationally with 6.5 receptions per game. Peters caught eight passes for a career-best 121 yards and three touchdowns against New Mexico Saturday night.
As a team, the Red Raiders rank fourth nationally and second in the Big 12 in scoring offense (50.0 ppg), sixth nationally and first in the Big 12 in pass offense (366.0 ypg) and ninth nationally and fourth in the Big 12 in kickoff returns (34.0 ypr).
