LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech junior golfers Chris Pace (Dallas, Texas) and Shaun Melville (Lubbock, Texas) finished first and fourth, respectively, at the Crown Colony Intercollegiate in Lufkin, Texas, last week. The event was played at the Crown Colony Golf Course.
Pace turned in rounds of 72-71-72 to finish at one-under and tied with Arkansas-Little Rock's Luke Bakke. Pace birdied the first playoff hole to win the event. Melville shot 73-74-72 to finish three-over.
"It is great to see Chris and Shaun play so well on such a difficult course," said Texas Tech head coach Greg Sands, who finished runner-up in the event in a playoff in 1997. "Crown Colony is one of the hardest courses I have played, and to see both Chris and Shaun finish in the top five is remarkable, especially since the field was so tough. Their progress to the team is very important and I think this will get our spring season off to a good start."
Pace finished ahead of several nationally ranked collegiate golfers, including TCU's David Schultz (15th) and Colorado State's Nolan Martin (18th).
