LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis team will travel to Denton this Sunday, Feb. 1 to take on the Lady Eagles of North Texas in the first match of the spring season. The match is set to begin at 10 a.m.
"We want to go out and compete hard," stated head coach Cari Groce. " I think the players are definitely ready, they're tired of playing each other, and they would like to take on someone else that is not in a Tech uniform. We 're going to continue focusing on performance goals and let the outcome take care of itself, but we're certainly ready to compete."
There are two new faces to this year's team, freshman Sarize Coetzee and sophomore Alexandra Zotta.
"Alex is going to be in the line up right away, she's a powerful player and we'll see some good things from her on the singles court," said Groce. "We're going to put Sarize right in in doubles, and pair her up with Tara Browning. She's a very talented doubles player. We're going to give her another week of hitting before we probably put her in the singles line up at this point, but I certainly think they're both very capable of playing both singles and doubles, we're just going to try to give them a little bit more adjustment time."
Following the match at UNT, Texas Tech will travel to Fort Collins, Colo., where they will take on Colorado State at noon on Feb. 13.
