Edwards Named Preseason Co-Big 12 Newcomer of the Year

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Big 12 Conference announced its 2004-05 women's basketball preseason honors today and Texas Tech sophomore Patrice Edwards was named Preseason Co-Newcomer of the Year, voted on by the league coaches.
Edwards, a native of Trinidad-Tobago, West Indies, averaged 12.5 points, 9.3 rebounds and 1.8 blocks as a freshman at Frank Phillips College (Borger, Texas). She was injured three games into her sophomore season and was granted a medical hardship, thus will be a sophomore at Texas Tech this year.
Junior Erin Grant and sophomore Alesha Robertson were selected preseason honorable mention All-Big 12. The league coaches vote on the preseason team and individual awards but are not allowed to vote for their own players.
The Big 12 Conference will hold its annual Big 12 Media Days in Kansas City, Mo., on Wed.-Thurs., Oct. 27-28.
The Lady Raiders will tip-off the 2004-05 season Mon., Nov. 22, at 7 p.m. against Rice in Lubbock at the United Spirit Arena.
