Neil McGuire Added as New Head Soccer Coach

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Athletic Department announced the hiring of Neil McGuire as the head women's soccer coach. McGuire comes to Tech from the University of Texas where he was an assistant for one season.
Prior to his stint at Texas, McGuire was the head coach at Mississippi State during 2000-2003 seasons. While at Mississippi State, McGuire averaged nine wins per season and established single-season school records for overall wins and conference victories during the 2001 season. McGuire was also tabbed as the Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year as he led the Bulldogs to the first-ever women's conference title in Mississippi State Athletics when his team earned a share of the 2001 SEC Western Division Championship.
McGuire has tallied a head coaching mark of 60-47-7 (.557), which includes his time at Mississippi State and at Iowa Central Community College, where he was a head coach for one season. McGuire also spent time at Iowa State and Arizona State, where he served as an assistant coach.
While at Mississippi State, McGuire earned his masters of education degree with an emphasis in sports administration in 2003.
A native of Edinburgh, Scotland, McGuire earned his associates degree in physical education with an emphasis on coaching from Telford College in Edinburgh before relocating to the United States. Upon his arrival, McGuire attended Augusta State University (Ga.) where, while earning a bachelor's degree in psychology, he was named first-team All-Peach Belt Athletic Conference for four consecutive years. He was also a three-time NSCAA All-Region selection and was also honored with an NSCAA All-America nomination in 1992.
McGuire's professional career includes time with the Falkirk Football Club in Scotland, the Des Moines Menace Professional Soccer Club and the Arizona Sahauros Professional Soccer Club.
