Tech Softball Downs Flyers

TEMPE, Ariz. - Junior Natalie Enderlin hit a two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Texas Tech softball team to a 9-8 win over the Dayton Flyers on the opening day of the Sun Devil softball tournament in Tempe, Ariz.
Dayton broke the ice and got on the score board in the top of the third inning, when first basemen Spencer Izor reached on an error and after a fly out to left field, the Flyers were able to string a pair of hits together to score Izor and build an early lead.
The Lady Raiders (1-5) responded in the bottom of the inning scoring three runs to wrestle the lead from the Flyers. Enderlin was hit by a pitch leading off the inning and scored a play later on a Dayton error. Ashley Parker and Elyssa Sigala also reached base and scored in the inning to give Tech a 3-2 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth, Tech added another run as Heather Parker and Natalie Kula reached on errors to start the inning and Parker scored on a ground out by Enderlin, who finished the game 1 for 4 with three runs scored and four RBI.
Dayton roared back in the top of the fifth inning when they put together four hits and took advantage of a pair of Tech errors to score six runs in the inning. The Flyers chased Tech starter Kassy Planck as in the inning she was replaced by Keely Tucker (1-2) who pitched the final three innings to get her first win of the season.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Lady Raiders were able to cut the Dayton lead to 8-7 by scoring three runs on hits by Andrea Joachims and Elyssa Sigala in addition to a hit batter and walk in the inning.
Tech came to bat in the bottom of the seventh inning trailing by a run and got the leadoff batter on base when Heather Parker was hit by a pitch. Two batters later, Enderlin ended the game when she sent a pitch screaming over the wall in right center field to give the Lady Raider their first win of the season
Texas Tech softball will return to the field tomorrow for day two of the Sun Devil Softball Tournament, as they will battle Western Michigan at 11:30 a.m. MST and No. 5 Washington at 1:30.
