HOUSTON, Texas - Josh Brady's three-run double helped cap off a five-run 11th inning that propelled Texas Tech to a 12-7 win over the Houston Cougars on Saturday afternoon in the Minute Maid College Classic at Minute Maid Park in Houston.
Adam Fry was the hero of the night for the Red Raiders as he entered the game with one out in the seventh and pitched the final 4 2/3 innings allowing just one hit and struckout five. Fry's mastery improved him to 1-0 in just his second appearance this season.
Texas Tech (4-1) stormed out of the gates early by scoring four runs off of Houston starter Garrett Mock who surrendered four runs on two hits in just 2/3 of an inning of work. Mock walked four Texas Tech batters in the inning while junior left fielder Michael Mask picked up an RBI double and junior Madison Edward got a two-RBI single.
Houston answered back in the bottom half of the first as the Cougars picked up three runs and four hits off of Tech starter Juan Razo. The Cougars picked up three straight hits in the inning including a double from Travis Tully and singles from Matt Farrington and Brett Cooley.
After a shaky first inning, Razo settled in and didn't allow another Houston run until the bottom of the fifth. Stuart Musslewhite drew a two-out single and moved to third on a double from Thanos Papavasiliou to give Houston two runners in scoring position. The Cougars tied the game at 4-4 when Josh Haney misplayed a ground ball that was hit sharply to third base allowing Musslewhite to score.
Junior second baseman Jose Delgado put Tech back in the lead in the sixth when he belted a two-run home run over the right field wall. The home run was his first of the season.
Houston would not go away quietly as the Cougars mounted a three-run rally in the bottom of the seventh that gave them their first lead of the game. Musslewhite picked up a two-RBI double in the inning and Rob Johnson scored him with a sacrifice bunt.
Tech tied the game at 7-7 in the eighth when Delgado slapped a one-out triple to deep left-center field and junior first baseman Josh Brady brought him home with a sacrifice fly to left.
The game went into extra innings as neither team was able to produce any runs in the ninth. After a scoreless 10th, Texas Tech broke the game open by scoring five runs in the top of the 11th. Houston reliever Kevin Roberts walked the bases loaded and Cameron Blair scored what turned out to be the winning run when he hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Madison Edwards. Roberts would walk Jose Delgado in the next at-bat setting up a base-clearing double that bounced off the high left field wall.
Michael Mask paced the Red Raider offense on the afternoon as he was 4-for-6 at the plate with two RBI. Kevin Roberts suffered the loss for Houston as he gave up five earned runs on two hits and four walks in three innings of work.
Texas Tech will play its final game of the 2004 Minute Maid College Classic tomorrow morning against Ohio State. First pitch is set for 10 a.m.
Game Notes:

Houston had won the previous two meetings 11-5 in 2001 (at Minute Maid Classic) and 3-0 in 2002 (at Round Rock Tournament).
- Tech's win over Houston snapped a three-game losing streak in the Minute Maid College Classic that includes last night's 9-6 loss to top-ranked Rice. Tech's last win in this tournament was a 2-1 victory over TCU on Feb. 7, 2002.
- The extra-inning game was Tech's first since a 5-4 loss at Texas on March 28, 2003. Tech's last extra-inning win came against Kansas State (5-4) in the Big 12 Tournament on May 22, 2002.
