PHOENIX, Ariz. - Sophomore Erin Crawford tied a career high with seven strikeouts, but Texas Tech softball fell to No. 5 Washington 6-0 at the Sun Devil Softball Tournament in Phoenix Arizona on Saturday.
The Lady Raiders (1-8) got two hits in the game's opening frame, when center fielder Natalie Enderlin led off the game with a single, but was gunned down at the plate two batters later after a single by Elyssa Sigala.
In the third inning, Tech again threatened to score. With one out, Natalie Kula walked and was followed by Enderlin who was hit by a pitch. After a strikeout by Ashley Parker, Sigala followed with a walk to load the bases with two outs. However, junior Kelly Rhyne could not convert as she flew out to center field to end the inning.
The Huskies (7-1) came to bat in the bottom of the third inning and drew first blood of Tech starter Erin Crawford (0-3). After she struck out the first batter of the inning, Crawford allowed a double to left field. The next Washington batter popped out to shortstop, but the next three reached base to load the bases for Kristin Rivera, who knocked in two runs with a double. The Huskies would score three runs in the inning on four hits to take a 3-0 lead.
Washington would add three runs in the sixth inning on three hits off of Tech reliever Kassy Planck to take a 6-0, which would become the final score.
The Lady Raiders will conclude play at the Sun Devil Softball Tournament tomorrow when they take on Nevada at 8:30 a.m. at the Moffort Sports Complex in Phoenix, Ariz.
