Tech Softball Blows Past UTEP in Home Opener

LUBBOCK, Texas - Junior centerfielder Natalie Enderlin hit a pair of home runs and drove in four runs as Texas Tech softball defeated UTEP in its home opener this afternoon in the first game of a doubleheader at Rocky Johnson Field.
The Lady Raiders (2-9) were able to gain an early advantage in the bottom of the first inning when junior Natalie Enderlin stepped to the plate and hammered a pitch to left field for her second home run of the season and a 1-0 Tech lead.
Tech struck again in the bottom of the second when Lisa Lawler doubled to lead off the inning and was followed by Britney Stolle who singled to advance Lawler to second. Brandy Moulin singled to drive in Lawler and push the Lady Raiders lead to 2-0.
In the third inning, Tech exploded to score seven runs on four hits. With one out in the inning, Kelly Rhyne worked deep into a count to draw a walk and was followed by a Lisa Lawler fly out. After the second out, the next six Lady Raiders would reach base, highlighted by three-home runs by Heather Parker and Enderlin. The home run was Enderlin's second of the game and third of the year.
The Miners got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning, scoring three runs on only one hit. The Lady Raiders committed two errors in the inning.
The Lady Raiders will take on UTEP again this afternoon at 4 p.m. and will take the road again tomorrow as they travel to Laffayette, La., to take part in the Mardi Gras Classic this weekend.
