Red Raiders Host In-State Rival TCU
After having its game against Dallas Baptist cancelled due to weather, the Red Raiders will jump back into action this weekend as the TCU Horned Frogs come to Dan Law Field for a three-game series. The series is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. on Friday and continue at 3:30 on Saturday before wrapping up at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Texas Tech (7-2) returns to the diamond fresh off a 2-1 series win over a very solid Northern Illinois team. Texas Tech took the first game of the series 10-9 before the Huskies tied things up with a 7-5 win on Saturday. Tech pushed its home non-conference win streak to 87 series by virtue of a 19-3 thrashing on Sunday. Tech has now won or tied 87 consecutive non-conference home series dating back to 1989.
TCU enters the weekend series against Texas Tech with an overall record of 4-5 on the young season. The Frogs committed six errors on Tuesday night against Oklahoma State that led to a 7-5 Cowboy win in Stillwater. TCU got off to a slow start on the year dropping four of its first five games before rebounding this past weekend at the Southwest Diamond Classic. The Frogs went 3-0 during that tournament with wins over Oklahoma State, Dallas Baptist and Furman. Jim Schlossnagle is in his first season as the head coach at TCU.
The Texas Tech Athletics Department will hold host its usual Coca-Cola Friday where all fans will receive special drink coupons at Friday's game. On Saturday, the first 500 fans will receive a Larry Hays bottle koozie and on Sunday one lucky fan can sign up to win $5,000 as part of the ABC Bank Super Sunday.
All three games will be broadcasted by the Texas Tech All-Sports Radio Network and can be heard locally on KKAM 1340.

Against The Frogs
Texas Tech is trying to overtake the all-time series lead against TCU as the Red Raiders have won nine of the last 11 contests. Tech went a perfect 6-0 against TCU in 2002 and then won the season-long series last year 3-2. TCU leads Texas Tech 65-63-1 and was victorious in the first-ever meeting between the two in-state schools back on March 18, 1957 (4-2). Tech and TCU will not play in the midweek this season for the first time since the two schools went to different conferences in 1997.
- Senior third baseman Josh Haney has a career .412 batting average against TCU as he went 7-for-17 last year and made all five starts.
- Senior hurler Steve Gooch is 1-1 all-time against the Frogs and has a combined ERA of 2.21 (eight hits, three earned runs and five strikeouts).
- Junior outfielder Madison Edwards has as career batting average of .241 (7-of-29 with six RBI) against the Frogs and has played in all 11 contests.
- Junior outfielder Cody Fuller has a career average of .222 against TCU along with four RBI.
- Head Coach Larry Hays is 38-24 against the Frogs and has a 20-10 record at Dan Law Field. TCU's last win at Dan Law was on March 28, 2000 (7-5).
Blair Leads Tech Past Northern Illinois
The bat of junior shortstop Cameron Blair helped pace the Red Raiders to a 2-1 series win over Northern Illinois last weekend. The Dallas native hit a whopping .529 (9-of-17) with six runs scored, two doubles, two home runs and a team-high nine RBI. Blair picked up a grand slam in the first game of the series that ultimately played a major role in the 10-9 last at-bat win. The grand slam was the first by a Tech player since Evan Shahak hit one against West Texas A&M on Feb. 4 of last year.
Blair raised his batting average by 71 points as he was hitting just .333 prior to the series against Northern Illinois. He is now the fourth leading hitter on the team with a clip of .404.
Tech-Dallas Baptist Reschedule
A major snowstorm that swept through West Texas on Tuesday forced the postponement of Tuesday's game against Dallas Baptist. Tech and DBU will now play at 3 p.m. on Wed., May 12 at Dan Law Field. Briefly
- Senior right-hander Steve Gooch continues to move up the all-time innings pitched list as he now sits in eighth place. With six innings against NIU on Sunday, Gooch now has 231.2 innings under his belt moving him past Ruben Garcia who threw 231.1 from 1979-83.
- Junior catcher Cooper Fouts will be out 1-2 weeks while nursing a sprained right ankle. Fouts sprained his ankle in the fourth inning on Sunday after rounding first following a base hit to left field.
- Junior right-hander Tanner McElroy has been solid in five relief appearances this season. McElroy has not allowed a run and has given up just four hits in seven innings of work. He is a perfect 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA and eight strikeouts.
- The Tech pitching staff is allowing just 2.3 walks-per-game which is the lowest walk ratio in the Big 12 Conference. Red Raider pitchers have walked just 21 batters in 83 innings of work.
- The Red Raider pitching staff is also averaging nine strikeouts per game which ties Missouri atop the Big 12. Tech has 79 strikeouts in nine games while Mizzou has 62 in seven games.
- Junior second baseman Jose Delgado picked up his Big 12 leading third triple on Friday in the first game of the NIU series. The school record for triples in a season is nine set by Jason Rainey back in 2000.
- Junior first baseman Josh Brady leads the Big 12 with 22 RBI and is tied with Travis Metcalf of Kansas for the home run lead with four.
