TCU Rallies To Defeat Texas Tech 6-4

LUBBOCK, Texas - Shelby Ford's three-run home run highlighted a four-run rally by TCU in the top of the ninth that led to a 6-4 Horned Frog win over Texas Tech in the first game of a three-game series at Dan Law Field on Friday afternoon.
TCU (5-5) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning on RBI singles from Bo Cogbilll and Nate Thomas. The Frogs scored both runs on a total of three hits.
The Red Raiders (7-3) got on the board in the bottom of the third on an RBI single from junior shortstop Cameron Blair. Blair's single scored center fielder Cody Fuller who reached earlier on a bunt single and then stole second.
Texas Tech took the lead on a three-run fourth inning that included three Tech hits and two TCU fielding errors. Junior third baseman Josh Haney and right fielder Ryan Andrews each picked up RBI doubles in the inning while Fuller plated the final run on a ground ball chopper that was misplayed by TCU shortstop German Duran.
The Horned Frogs mounted their rally in the top of the ninth on a pinch-hit single from Austin Adams and a double by Duran. Shelby Ford gave the Frogs the lead when he blasted a three-run home run over the right field wall. TCU plated its fourth run of the inning on an RBI double from Chris Neuman.
Senior starter Steven Thomas was denied his first win of the season despite a stellar effort on the mound. Thomas pitched a career-high six innings in his first career start and struckout another career-high five TCU batters. Junior reliever Travis McElroy (1-1) took the loss for Texas Tech as he surrendered three earned runs on four hits.
Chad Underwood (1-1) earned the win for TCU as he pitched two perfect innings with two strikeouts.
Texas Tech and TCU will play the second game of the three-game series at 3:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon at Dan Law Field.
