
No. 19 Track Comes Out Strong at Red Raider Invitational

LUBBOCK, Texas - In its last home indoor meet of the season, the Texas Tech track team turned in two provisional qualifying marks today at the Red Raider Invitational in Lubbock, Texas. This was the last of three meets held at home before the team heads to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Tyson Food Invitational hosted by the University of Arkansas.
In the high jump, Misty Coley earned a spot in the record book with a mark of 5'-8.0" (1.73m) and a first-place finish to tie in fourth in school history, along with Lacy Wilson. Wilson finished in third with a height of 5'-4.25" (1.63m). Chad Pharis finished third in the high jump with a mark of 6'-9.75" (2.08m), his best mark this season.
In the women's long jump, Tori Polk finished in third with a mark of 19'-0.5" (5.80m).In the triple jump, Geralda Dukuly finished in third with a mark of 41'-3.25" (12.58m), her best career mark and the third best mark in school history. Jason Young kicked out his own record in Tech's top five list with a mark of 59'-7.50" (18.17m) in the weight throw. Olivia Clardy also finished in first with a mark of 51'-11.25" (15.83m). In the shot put, Megan Schuessler had a career best throw of 46'-9.50" (14.26m) to finish in second. Schessler's throw was the fifth-best mark in school history and is the only athlete besides Tabitha Polk to have a top five mark in the shot put.
Kelley Schulz and Dana Rosenbladt finished second and third, respectively, in the pole vault with heights of 11'-11.75" (3.65m). On the men's side, Jared Thornhill cleared a height of 16'-1.25" (4.91m) to finish in second.
Licretia Sibley and Rachelle Evans took home top marks, first and third, in the 400. Sibley ran a time of 54.59 while Evans finished in 56.83.
Jonathan Johnson took home the gold in the 600 with a time of 1:11.14 while Derron Herah chased at his heels, finishing in third with a time of 1:12.53, Herah's first appearance in the 600 this season. Also making her first appearance in the 600 was Ruth Camacho who finished in third with a time of 1:27.33.
With a time of 6.91 in the 55m dash, Shereefa Lloyd turned in Tech's sixth provisional qualifying mark and a first-place finish. Lloyd ran a 6.97 in the prelims to advance to the finals.
The 1000m run was ruled by the Red Raiders with Tech turning in the top two finishes in both the men's and women's races. Brionne Yosten ran a 2:50.05 to take first while Stefanie Calhoun followed behind with a time of 3:02.06. The time marks Yosten's best career time, previously a time of 2:54.96 set at the Big 12 Championships in 2003. It was also Calhoun's best career time. Steven Morales finished first for the men with a time of 2:30.46 with Kyle Atwood running a 2:30.72 for a second-place finish.
Albert Booker turned in his second provisional qualifying mark of the season as well as the fifth best mark in school history, this time in the 200 with a time of 21.13. Booker provisionally qualified in the 400 last weekend with at time of 47.06. Lloyd was only .08 second short of her own qualifying time in the 200 finishing first with a time of 24.08. It was good enough for the second fastest time in school.
The women swept the 3000, securing the top six finishes while the men took the top four honors. Bridget Tidwell beat her career best time of 10:02.05 with a time of 9:56.63 to pace the team. Yosten finished in second with a time of 10:06.71 while Tracie Akerhielm finished in a time of 10:26.15. Benson Cheserek led the race with a first place finish and time of 8:43.00. Frank Ngeno and Joseph McCellon finished second and third, respectively, with times of 9:00.19 and 9:11.26.
Tech's 4x400 team of Rhett Rimmer, Orin Darrington, Herah and Shawon Harris finished in third with a time of 3:18.63. The women's distance medley relay team of Kelly Blikre, Maegan Cartrite, Lauren Williams, ran a time of 3:15.30 to finish in second.
