Robertson Named Big 12 Rookie of the Week

DALLAS - Texas Tech's Alesha Robertson was named Big 12 Rookie of the Week and Kansas State's Kendra Wecker was named Big 12 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for games from Feb. 2-8, the conference office announced Monday.
Players are nominated by each school's sports information office and voted on by a panel of media who cover Big 12 women's basketball.
Robertson, a 6-0 freshman guard, helped Texas Tech to two victories last week as she averaged 18.5 points and 7.5 rebounds. Against Kansas, the Plainview, Texas, native had 12 points, five rebounds, three assists and tied her career-high three steals. At No. 17 Baylor, Robertson scored a game-high 25 points and grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds for her first career double-double, while adding two assists and hitting a career-high five three-pointers in 35 minutes of play. She shot 50 percent from the field (15-for-30) and 53.8 percent from three-point range (7-for-13) for the week. Robertson is leading Tech in scoring with a 12.4 average overall and 16.4 average in Big 12 games only. She is also shooting a team-high 43.9 percent from the three-point arc.
Wecker, a 5-11 junior forward, recorded two double-double performances last week to lead the No. 10-ranked Wildcats to victories over Iowa State (15 points, 10 rebounds) and No. 11 Colorado (23 points, 10 rebounds). She averaged a team-leading 19.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game and shot 53.6 percent from the floor (15-of-28) and a perfect 6-for-6 from free throw line. Wecker also turned in 2.5 assists, 1.5 blocks and 2.0 steals per game. The Marysville, Kan., native became the second fastest Wildcat to reach 1,500 career points (88 career games), topping the number with her second basket of the game vs. Colorado. Her 32 career double-doubles rank second all-time in school history. She has scored 20 or more points 16 times this season and 31 times in her three-year career at K-State. Wecker's double-double vs. CU was the fifth vs. a Top 25 opponent this season. She moved into sixth all-time in career scoring with 1,520 career points to date.
