LUBBOCK, Texas - Kassy Planck pitched four and a third innings of stellar relief but Texas Tech could not rally behind her as they fell to Texas State in game two of a doubleheader 6-4 at Rocky Johnson Field on Monday evening.
As in the first game, Tech would load the bases in the bottom of the first inning and would only be able to manage one run. Natalie Enderlin led off the game with a single to center field and was followed by Natalie Kula who bunted for a base hit. A single by Elyssa Sigala would load the bases for Kelly Rhyne who popped out. Brandy Moulin would get Tech on the scoreboard with a RBI ground out. Britney Stolle could not prolong the inning, however, as she fouled out the third base to end the inning.
Texas State (28-8) would roar back in the top of the second inning scoring three runs of their own on four hits and one Tech error.
The Bobcat assault would continue in the top of the third, as they would chase Tech starter Keely Tucker (6-6) after allowing six runs, but only two of them earned. Kassy Planck entered the game in relief of Tucker. Texas State would score three runs on two hits to push its lead to 6-1.
Planck would pitch well in relief pitching the final four and a third innings allowing no runs and only three hits.
Tech would cut into lead in the bottom of the fourth. A lead off single by Kelly Rhyne would not go wasted. Britney Stolle reached on error to put runners on second and third with one out. After a foul out by Andrea Joachims, Lisa Lawler hit a double to drive in Rhyne and cut the lead to 6-2.
In the bottom of the fifth, Senior Elyssa Sigala hit a double to deep center field to extend her school record-hitting streak to 19 games.
The Lady Raiders will kick off conference play this weekend against Iowa State, playing the Cyclones at 2 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. on Sunday.
