LUBBOCK, Texas - The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal announced over the weekend that Texas Tech head women's basketball coach Marsha Sharp was named as one of Lubbock's 10 most influential citizens. Sharp was the only female on the list.
About six weeks ago, the A-J mailed out 300 ballots to residents in Lubbock asking them to select and rank Lubbock's 10 most influential citizens. The letter they sent out asked participants to define influence as the "power of a person to affect others." Sharp was ranked sixth among the top 10 in an informal A-J poll designed to find Lubbock's most influential people. Senator Robert Duncan tops the A-J's list.
Sharp just finished her 22nd season at the helm of the Lady Raider program and has established a career record of 533-167 in her time as head coach. Away from the game, Sharp is very active in the Lubbock community as she serves on several committees and boards and is in demand as a guest speaker as various events.
