Lady Raiders Down Columbia In First Home Night Game

LUBBOCK, Texas - Senior Elyssa Sigala hit a pair of two-run home runs and drove in all four runs as Texas Tech softball defeated Columbia 4-1 in the team's first ever night game at Rocky Johnson Field on day one of Mutual of Omaha Lady Raider Classic.
The Lady Raiders (7-15) drew first blood in the contest scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Ashley Parker led off the game with a bunt single and was moved to second on a sacrifice by Natalie Kula. Senior Elyssa Sigala got the Tech on the board when she slammed her fifth home run in five games over the wall in left field, driving in Parker and herself to give the Lady Raider a 2-0 lead. The hit would extend a career high six game-hitting streak for Sigala.
Heather Parker singled in the top of the second inning to extend her hitting streak to six games. Later in the inning, it was Sigala who again sent a pitch over the wall in left center field for a two-run home run to give the Raiders a 4-0 lead. During the inning Kelly Rhyne would also extend a career high hitting streak to seven games, but would be retired later in the inning on a fielder's choice.
Freshman pitcher Kassy Planck (1-1) pitched her first career complete game and got the win for Tech. Plank yielded only five hits to the Lions while striking out two.
The third game of the tournament, which was scheduled to be Texas Tech against New Mexico, was rescheduled to Saturday at 12 p.m. due to weather.
The Lady Raiders will continue play at the Mutual of Omaha Lady Raider Classic tomorrow when they take on New Mexico at 12 p.m., Columbia at 2 p.m. and New Mexico at 6 p.m. Columbia and New Mexico will do battle at 4 p.m. The tournament will conclude on Sunday when Tech takes on Columbia at 10 a.m. and New Mexico at 12 p.m.
