Crawford Pitches Tech Past New Mexico in Tournament Finale

LUBBOCK, Texas - Sophomore Erin Crawford pitched her fourth complete game of the season while leading Texas Tech softball to a 4-1 victory over New Mexico in the tournament finale of the Mutual of Omaha Lady Raider Softball Classic at Rocky Johnson Field. Tech finished the tournament with a record of 5-1.
The Lady Raiders (11-16) would draw first blood in the contest as they scored two runs in the bottom of the first to take an early lead. With one out, Natalie Enderlin singled and a batter later Elyssa Sigala reached first and moved Enderlin to second on a fielder's choice. Kelly Rhyne followed with a single to drive in Enderlin. Brandy Moulin followed with a RBI fielder's choice to plate Sigala and give Tech a 2-0 lead.
New Mexico would get on the board in the top of the second inning on a pair of doubles. With one out in the inning, designated player Robyn Hutson doubled in the left field and scored two batters later on a double by center fielder Sabrina Sandberg.
In the bottom of the fourth, Tech would add insurance run and push its lead to 3-1. Right fielder Lisa Lawler hit a lead off double to left center field and was lifted for pinch runner Amanda Oakes who scored two batters later on a single by Natalie Kula.
A Sigala single in the bottom of the sixth inning would drive in Ashley Parker and give the Lady Raiders a 4-1 lead. The single would also extend Sigala's career high hitting streak to 11 games.
Crawford would get her third win of the weekend to push her record to 5-5 on the season. For the game, Crawford yielded only seven hits and struck out four batters.
Texas Tech softball will be back in action on March 16 when they travel to El Paso, Texas, to take on UTEP.
