Hauck Pitches Tech Softball Past UTEP

EL PASO, Texas - Julie Hauck allowed only two hits and struck out seven in a complete game shutout to lift Texas Tech to a 4-0 victory over UTEP at Tejanas Field in El Paso, Texas, this afternoon.
The Lady Raider (12-16) would break the ice in the top of the fourth inning, scoring a pair of runs to take the lead. Elyssa Sigala would draw a lead off walk and would be moved to second on a sacrifice by Kelly Rhyne. With two outs, Britney Stolle would reach on an error and would be followed by Lisa Lawler would single to drive in Sigala and Stolle and give Tech the 2-0 lead.
Sigala would see to it that the Lady Raiders would add an insurance run in the top of the fifth. After a single by Natalie Kula, Sigala hit a double over the head of the center fielder to plate Kula and extend her career high hitting streak to 12 games.
In the top of the sixth inning, Stolle would lead off the inning with sharp double to left field. After a Lawler ground out would ove her to second, Stolle would score on a Joachims single to push the Tech lead to 4-0.
Hauck (2-5) would not allow a base runner until the bottom of the third and would allow on a pair of hits on the afternoon. .
Texas Tech softball will be back in action this afternoon when it takes on the Marist College Red Foxes in El Pasco, Texas, at 2 p.m. The team will travel to Las Cruces, N.M., tomorrow to take on New Mexico State in a doubleheader.
