Lady Raider Rally Falls Short Against Texas, 8-7

LUBBOCK, Texas - Brandy Moulin drove in three runs and Elyssa Sigala hit her 10th home run of the season but Texas Tech could not rally past Texas, falling 8-7 in game one of Thursday's doubleheader at Rocky Johnson Field.
The Lady Raiders (19-27; 1-8 Big 12) were able get an early run in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Ashley Parker singled up the middle leading off the game and the next batter Natalie Kula reached on an error by the pitcher. Sigala followed with a single to center field to load the bases with no outs. The next two batters could not push a run across, striking out and grounding into a fielder's choice to bring Moulin to the plate with two outs. Moulin drew her second bases loaded walk in as many games to drive in her 16th run of the year.
Sigala slammed her 10th home run of the season, a two-run shot, in the bottom of the fourth to extend the Tech lead to 3-0. Kula, who 2 for 3 with a walk in the game, singled the at bat before and scored her second run of the game.
The Longhorns (19-17; 1-7 Big 12) bounced back in the top of the fifth, batting around to score five runs and taking a 5-3 lead. Texas chased Tech starter Kassy Planck by collecting six consecutive hits in the innings, including a two-run home run by Tina Boutelle.
Before the inning, Texas was being out hit by the Lady Raiders 8-2.
In the bottom of the sixth, Tech was able to mount a big inning of their own, scoring four runs in the frame to close the gap to 8-7. The Lady Raiders loaded the bases for the third time in the game and got on the board when Natalie Enderlin earned an RBI the hard way, being hit by a pitch for the ninth time this season. Moulin added a two-run double for her second and third RBI's of the game. Britney Stolle put a exclamation mark an RBI single a batter later to drive in the fourth run of the inning.
After getting the Horns to in order in top of the seventh, Tech could not manage a base runner in bottom of the inning.
This weekend the Texas A&M Aggies come to town to face the Lady Raiders. The teams will square off on Saturday at 6 p.m. on "Run the Rock Night" which will feature members of the nationally ranked Lady Raider basketball team who be taking throwing out the first pitch and performing various game operations. The teams will take the field at 1 p.m. on Sunday's series finale.
