LUBBOCK, Texas - Mike Leach surprised many of the record-breaking season ticket holders from the 2003 season as they lined up Thursday morning at the Athletics Ticket Office to renew and upgrade their tickets for the 2004 season. The four-year head coach of the Red Raiders handed out doughnuts and greeted fans as they entered the building at the north end of Jones SBC Stadium.
Ticket upgrades allow season ticket holders from last season to move to a different location or add seats before season tickets go on sale to the general public Tue., April 20. One of the many perks to being a football season ticket holder is being allowed early access to available seating in Jones SBC Stadium for the 2004 season. With season ticket perks such as VIP discount cards, early ticket purchases for bowl games and early upgrades, season ticket holders for the 2003 season turned out in record numbers with over 20,100 purchasing tickets, and setting the table for a goal of 30,000 for the 2004 season.
The program has established the school's attendance record twice since Leach's arrival in 2000, including last season's record 49,608 fans per game. In his second season, the program set the previous record with 46,101 in average attendance.
