Red Raiders Shutout Kansas State 3-0

LUBBOCK, Texas - Junior left fielder Michael Mask went 3-for-3 with a home run while Dallas Braden and Adam Fry combined for a shutout to lead the Texas Tech Red Raiders to a 3-0 win over Kansas State on Saturday afternoon at Dan Law Field.
The win gives Texas Tech its second straight Big 12 series win and the team improves to 23-12 overall and 5-5 in the league. Kansas State fell to 21-15 overall and 2-9 in the Big 12.
Texas Tech got on the board early as the Red Raiders squeezed out two runs in the bottom of the first off Kansas State starter Carlos Torres. Junior shortstop Cameron Blair led off the game with a double to left field on the first offering from Torres. Blair then moved to third on a groundout by Dallas Braden and then first baseman Josh Brady single him home with a line shot to left-center. Brady moved to second on a fielding error by Wildcat first baseman Chris Carlson and that set up an RBI for Michael Mask as he singled to left.
The game turned into a pitcher's dual over the next six innings as the two teams stranded a combined nine runners on base.
Texas Tech got an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth on a solo home run by Mask that went sailing over the fence in left-center field.
Dallas Braden (2-3) picked up the win as he pitched seven shutout innings and allowed just three hits and struckout four. Adam Fry earned his second save of the season for Tech as he pitched the final two innings allowing just two hits. Carlos Torres (5-3) was tagged for the loss as he allowed three runs (two earned) on nine hits in 7 1/3.
Texas Tech will go for the series sweep on Sunday afternoon as they host Kansas State in the final game of the three-game series at Dan Law Field. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
